Those who have been waiting patiently for news on the sequel to stealth-heavy, action/adventure Beyond Good & Evil will be sorely disappointed to know that this is not it. Also, there has been no mention of it at TGS this year, at all. But Ubisoft figured the announcement of an HD remake of the original should tide fans over for another year.
The original was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC nearly seven years ago and was also fairly popular. It may have come as surprise to many that this remake would be coming in place of the sequel, especially considering I haven’t heard much request for it, and also considering the fact that the game originally supported 420p.
It would be re-titled Beyond Good & Evil HD (real original), and will arrive for Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in 2011. According to the publisher, the Beyond Good & Evil redux will feature 1080p graphics, including enhanced character models and upgraded textures, and Ubisoft has also remastered the game’s musical score. Which will come along with the obvious Trophies, achievements and leaderboards traditionally expected on such games.
Ubisoft has maintained a high level of secrecy around Beyond Good & Evil 2, which is being helmed by franchise creator Michel Ancel. As part of the game’s announcement more than two years ago, Ubisoft released a cinematic teaser trailer, one in which Jade and her man-pig companion Pey’j appeared to be idling away time after their hovercar had broken down in a desert wasteland.
I bought the original just a year ago at Wal-Mart for only $1 and enjoyed it very much, I don’t feel HD will make me want to play through it again and pay 10 times the price. Your thoughts?
