It had long been speculated that the immensely popular Mass Effect would eventually make it’s way to Playstation 3 in some form. It turns out it will be in the form of a sequel and with some upgrades. This information was announced yesterday at Gamescom, in Germany, with some mixed reactions I am sure. As far as the bonus content that will be included on the single Blu-ray disc, it has yet to be announced. I would guess that is the free content that came with the collectors edition version of the Xbox 360 version and perhaps another piece of DLC for free, to make it worth that wait for those Playstion 3 only owners out there.
Though, those playing it will not have the advantage or opportunity to use a game save from the first game as that is and always will be an Xbox console exclusive title. This also begs the question as to whether the third and final part of the trilogy will have the carried over save feature that we will come to expect in the Xbox 360 and PC version. Mass Effect 2 does give a very good recap of the events that occurred in the first game, so you only really miss out on the experience.
I do think this is great for the PS3 owners out there as they finally get the chance to experience such an amazing story and work of art. It’s a shame they may never knows the joys of the original nor be able to appreciate how much better the second game is. The game will be in those cloudy-clear cases by Januaray 2011. Here is the PS3 announcement trailer for your enjoyment.
