The latest unveiling of video footage from this upcoming Wii title is nothing short of beautiful. I have been a Metroid fan since the SNES era, and enjoyed everyone since. Where Prime was a divergence from the side-scroller style this iteration will be diverging once again by be a far more action-oriented shooter, in a way it’s going back to it’s roots. This is coming from Team Ninja, those more known for there Ninja Gaiden and the Dead or Alive series of games. It’s quite interesting to see how some of those elements carried over into the world of Metroid.
The minimalist play style of the game is also something that hearkens back to it’s NES days, since you need only use the Wiimote minus the nun-chuck and it is held sideways, using only the face buttons while in third person. As soon as you point the wiimote at the screen the game convert to first-person mode and you can aim and grapple far easier this way. As you can see from the trailer below this game can be fairly unforgiving and brutal. The graphics seem exceptionally crisp for a Wii title, but this is expected from all First party Nintendo properties. Enjoy the trailer for yourself before the game comes out on the 31st.
