StarCraft 2 Post Release Update – Sales and MLG news

StarCraft 2 Post Release Update – Sales and MLG news

Zack Dodge 03 Aug

Within the first 48 hours of release, StarCraft 2 has already become the fastest selling strategy game of all time. Already 1.5 million units have been sold, and that was in the first two days, keep in mind that close to 1 million of these sales were pre-orders.

It is rare that when a game releases it is praised by the entire gaming community, but after sinking quite a few hours into both multiplayer skirmish mode, and campaign it is easy to see how this game has been reviewed so well, and carried such a great reputation all of these years. It seems to look like who ever plays this game has nothing but positive things to say, and unlike other RTS games Blizzard has done an excellent job on re inventing the RTS campaign. The missions are varied, detailed, and challenging. With two full campaign expansions to come in the future from Protoss and Zerg, there is no shortage of gameplay for the next few years ahead.

It is clear at this point, that SC2 will eventually out sell the original SC that sold about 11 million units world wide. On top of sales news, MLG (major league gaming) has also decided to pick up SC2 for competitive play starting next tournament. Who knows SC2 may have the fan base to rival Halo for the MLG limelight.
One thing is clear, this game is great and should not be missed. Who knows maybe now is the time to make the PC upgrade that has been holding back the gaming goodness. With sales on the rise, competitive play underway, and a great word of mouth, this game has no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
