There’s no Animal Crossing game for Wii U (yet,) but there is an Animal Crossing companion app available for the system that’s designed to improve your Animal Crossing: New Leaf experience. Entitled Animal Crossing Plaza, the new app is a free service that lets you easily connect and share data from the 3DS game with other players online.
Animal Crossing Plaza is basically a modified version of the Wii U’s existing Mii Plaza, except that the Mii characters are replaced with the animals from Animal Crossing. By clicking on an animal, you can view posts or screenshots uploaded by other users about that specific character, or post a comment yourself. Players will be able share screenshots and QR codes from the 3DS game by importing them to the Wii U via SD card.
In my review for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, I complained about the clunkiness of the game’s online infrastructure and UI, so hopefully this new app will make it easier to organize online meet-ups and trades.
Nintendo recently cited New Leaf as one of their biggest hits in recent years: the game has sold over five million copies since its international release last June.
Animal Crossing Plaza is a free service that will only be offered until the end of 2014.
