Capcom announces five new characters for Super Street Fighter IV (UPDATE – w/ trailer, title info)

Capcom announces five new characters for Super Street Fighter IV (UPDATE – w/ trailer, title info)

Michael Lacerna 13 Jul

Capcom announced today that a major update is on the way for Super Street Fighter IV, which will include five new characters, new stages, and a host of tweaks for the older characters.

The five new characters are Rolento, the grenade tossing soldier who’s probably best known for his appearances in the Final Fight and Street Fighter Alpha series’; Hugo, the giant wrestler; Poison, Hugo’s lover of an indeterminate gender; Elena, the infamously well animated capoeira fighter from Street Fighter III; and finally, a completely brand new, never before seen character who will debut with the upcoming update.

It’s worth noting that most of the “new” characters being added to this update (with the exception of the new character, obviously,) previously appeared in Street Fighter X Tekken, so it’s probably safe to assume that Capcom will reuse the character models and animations from that game.

Besides the new characters and stages, the update will also feature tons of rebalancing changes for the older characters. You can read a detailed rundown of the tweaks over at Capcom Unity.

The update will be available as a downloadable expansion for existing Super Street Fighter IV: AE owners for $14.99. Capcom will also release a new SKU of SSF4:AE in stores that will include the original game as well as all of the new update’s content on one disc for $39.99.

Capcom will reveal the new version’s title and show off the first footage from the update tomorrow, sometime during this weekend’s Evo 2013 fighting tournament.

UPDATE – Capcom has released a trailer showing the first footage of four of the new(-ish) characters. The completely brand new character that Capcom teased earlier this weekend has yet to be revealed. Besides the new characters, this updated version of Street Fighter IV will also boast a new title, as the game is now called Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime early next year.
