If money talks, then the wallets of gamers everywhere will soon be heartbroken by the breakup speech about to be delivered. It looks as if Steam’s annual Summer Sale is rolling out tomorrow, July 11, and there’s a good chance your money will find someplace it would rather be. Featuring a massive sale that discounts a number of titles up to 75% off, or more for community and lightning deals, Valve’s digital distribution service is the place to be once the sale goes live.
While Valve has yet to officially confirm the sale’s start date, a pile of substantial evidence gives credibility to tomorrow’s expected launch. This thread on Reddit has done a good job of compiling all of the relevant data. First, two different payment methods used by Steam, QIWI and Yandex (used in Russia,) have sent word to their customers to make sure their Steam Wallets are full, because the Summer Sale begins on July 11. In addition, one poster has received an email from Valve mentioning that the current Midweek Madness deal will be ending earlier in the day than normal tomorrow, at 10AM PST as opposed to the usual 4PM PST. Finally, there are no new games scheduled to be released on Steam over the next week or so, and the community knows that Steam never releases new titles during major sale periods. All of this makes for a pretty convincing argument the Steam Summer Sale will kick off at some point tomorrow afternoon.
Are you folks ready to save big on Steam? Are there any titles in particular you’d like to see discounted? Do you usually end up buying more backlog titles you’ve missed, or taking chances on unknown indie titles during sales like this?
