Evo fans have yet another reason to get hyped about this weekend’s major world tournament: Not only did Nintendo backtrack and decide to allow Super Smash Bros. Melee streaming privileges during the event, (after the incredibly passionate Fighting Game Community fought hard and donated over $90k to breast cancer research in the game’s name alone,) but NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon has made some announcements concerning the popular DC brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us.
According to Shoryuken, Evo’s official homesite, NetherRealm will debut a new teaser trailer, complete with gameplay footage, of the game’s next DLC fighter. In addition to that, Boon noted in a recent tweet that, “the EVO Injustice DLC debut video will also feature a new character skin that players have been CLAMORING for MONTHS now!” Personally, I’m hoping that means we finally get to Nightwing in his original Boy Wonder duds.
Since the last “season” of Injustice content included four characters, it stands to reason this upcoming season will do something similar. To that end, rumor has it that three of the additional characters include Martian Manhunter, the Red Hood (Jason Todd’s version), and Power Girl. Considering the rumor mill was four-for-four on guessing the last season’s content offerings, there’s a good chance these are the most likely candidates. Martian Manhunter has been one of the most-requested characters since the game launched. He is, after all, the only founding Justice League member not to have a spot on the roster. If I had my way, the fourth character added to this season would be Zatanna.
Evolution 2013, or Evo as it’s more commonly known, takes place this weekend from July 12-14 at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The trailer debuting the latest Injustice character will premiere before the game’s final match sometime on Sunday.
Which character are you hoping to see announced at Evo 2013 this weekend? Will you be tuning in to see the debut trailer? Which costume could Boon be referring to?
