Fans of the Earthbound series, of which there are many, today brings exciting news. Though the original Mother never made it stateside in the form of an official release, Joystiq just broke news of an alternative solution. The wonderful folks over at Rose Colored Gaming are selling a reproduced copy of Earthbound Zero, the western equivalent of Mother with full English translation.
According the the announcement, RCG is using an English ROM (fan-made, of course) for the translation, but have kept the original Japanese version’s game mechanics in tact. Apparently, this means the difficulty will remain true to form, as opposed to the scaled down version originally intended for western audiences that never came to fruition.
In addition to finally being able to own the closest thing we’ll likely see to a US release of Mother, the team has crafted a beautiful scarlet red cartridge that even features an Earth medallion mysteriously floating in the center for your amusement and astonishment. Rose Colored Gaming does note they’re currently out of stock, but promises that more are on the way soon. So be sure to check back often if you plan on picking up a copy.
