In what could potentially be the most creative collaboration since the starry-eyed dreamer who smashed peanut butter and chocolate together into a bite-sized treat, developer Q Games and publisher Double Eleven have entered into a partnership for future game projects. Q Games, the makers of such hits as Lumines and the PixelJunk series, issued the following statements in honor of the news.
Correction: Lumines was developed by Q Entertainment, the studio behind Child of Eden. Q Games was responsible for Star Fox Command on the original DS and co-developed STar Fox 64 3D alongside Nintendo EAD. Thanks ecchisquirrel!
“Double Eleven has an outstanding track record in videogame development, and we like their way of thinking when it comes to publishing,” said Dylan Cuthbert, president of the studio. “Q games is about making memorable experiences for everyone, and Double Eleven are the perfect partner to see our vision through.”
Double Eleven, most recently known for their work on the PS Vita version of LittleBigPlanet, followed the remarks of Cuthbert with a response from COO Mark South. “Q Games bring a phenomenal amount of knowledge, creative ability, passion, and, most significantly, games to the mix,” he said. “Most importantly, when we met Dylan and the team it became pretty clear that we would hugely complement each other’s plans for making great games.”
While both studios have made games for the PlayStation brand in the past, it should be noted that the exclusivity agreement between Sony and Double Eleven ended as of June 21. Currently, Q Games is hard at work finishing PixelJunk Inc., a PC port that collects PixelJunk 1-6 for release on Steam later this year. Double Eleven is publishing the upcoming PS Vita release of PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD, a complete collection that includes the original game, the Encore expansion, and other goodies carried over by the PSP Deluxe incarnation, which is set for a late summer release.
Between Star Fox Command, the PixelJunk series, and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, these talented folks have tackled a variety of genres and creative game mechanics. I’ll be interested to see what that pair can come up with for future projects that take advantage of next-gen console tech. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for an announcement of their first collaborative endeavor.
Are you folks excited by this news? Have you played any of either studio’s previous games? What types of genres should the new collaboration focus on? Slight correction: Q Games did not create Lumines, that was Q Entertainment (who also made Child of Eden.) It’s an easy mistake to make: different companies, same-ish name.

Good catch. Thanks for the tip! I’ve added a correction to the article.
