“X”, the enigmatically titled sequel to the Wii’s Xenoblade Chronicles, will hit the Wii U sometime next year. Nintendo released some brand new footage from the game to tide fans over until then, and while the Wii U obviously doesn’t have the horsepower to compete with all the next-gen graphical goodness we’ve seen from the PS4 and Xbox One, that hasn’t stopped “X’s” developers from making it a very, very pretty game.
“X” is being developed by Monolith Soft, the team responsible for the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii (which fetches a decent price on eBay nowadays, by the way,) as well as the PS2’s Xenosaga series and the Baten Katen series on the Gamecube. Like Xenoblade, “X” is a non linear RPG where the player is free to explore the game’s massive world at their leisure. Players will be able to quickly traverse the game’s world using some very anime-looking giant robots, which can transform into jets and cars. While it looks like players will battle most enemies on foot, the game does feature mecha vs. mecha battles as well.
Xenoblade Chronicles was one of the few original Wii games that didn’t look like something that could’ve been done on PS2, and likewise, “X” looks substantially better than most of the other Wii U titles we’ve seen so far.
“X” will come out for the Wii U sometime in 2014.
