It’s been a while since any news broke about Sony Japan’s upcoming PSN title Rain. In fact, I imagine we’ll be getting some serious information and a plethora of gameplay footage during E3 next month. Until then, we’ll have to settle for this sweet-yet-melancholy story trailer that the PlayStation channel released on YouTube this morning. Take a look:
Until now, not much was known about this “dark” and dreary platformer. Aside from the obvious plot devices of “the boy is invisible” and ” he can only be seen at night in the rain,” we’ve only had some screenshots to go on. We now know there is another invisible child looking to escape the never-ending cycle of rain, and that there are would-be pursuers looking to capture them both. It’s hard to say what those creatures chasing them are; one moves on all fours and somewhat resembles a Giraffe, while the other shown during the trailer walks upright and isn’t reminiscent of any animal I’ve ever seen.
For those still curious about what to expect, the majority of the game will be focused on puzzle-solving and platforming to complete objectives; so anyone hoping for an endless firefight or combat-focused gameplay will have to look elsewhere. Rain seems poised to deliver a story-driven experience telling the tale of two kindred spirits searching for safety.
Rain is a PlayStation Network exclusive slated for download this fall. No specific release date or price point has yet been provided.
