New Injustice Trailer Shows Off Batgirl Gameplay

New Injustice Trailer Shows Off Batgirl Gameplay

Vincent Parisi 09 May

After a marketplace snafu inadvertently revealed Batgirl would be featured as an upcoming DLC character for Injustice: Gods Among Us, developer Netherrealm decided to go ahead and officially announce the bat-broad’s inclusion. Today, they’ve followed up that announcement with a first look at how Barbara handles herself against the likes of Joker, who many will remember as being responsible for her extended period of paralysis and subsequent transformation into the character of Oracle. Take a look:

As you can see, Batgirl isn’t merely a clone of either Batman or Nightwing, and features a completely unique move set and combo chain. Although, that still doesn’t really negate the fact that out of the 26-character roster (including both Batgirl and recent addition Lobo,) eight of the characters belong to the Batman family alone. (Nine if you count Grundy.) That means a huge percentage of Justice League-ers and villains are left without a rival to battle. It’s also worth mentioning that when Batgirl does become available, NetherRealm will also simultaneously release The Killing Joke costume pack which, given the trailer, we can assume will at least come with The Joker’s alternate Hawaiian vacation attire.

Either way, it’s nice to see that each character is being crafted to be an individual and even given proper dialogue to match specific character match-ups. There are still two characters left to be announced during the first “season” of Injustice content, so be sure to check back for any breaking news concerning their identities. (Heavy rumor suggests one of them may be General Zod, which would make sense given that the Man of Steel movie is only a month or so away.) Personally, I’d like to see the team try to turn Mirror Master into a competent villain. With the right moveset, he could be a lot of fun to play as.

Are you guys excited to download Batgirl as a playable character? Who else are you hoping to see announced as future DLC? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

About The Author

Vincent Parisi

I guess I'm the typical, modern day nerd. I was raised right on Batman: TAS and old-school TMNT. I've been a core gamer since I was 2 years old (I was beating Mario before I could finish sentences) and haven't thought twice about it since. My favorite game genre is RPG for sure. I love the advent of channels like Nerdist and Geek and Sundry, and will never turn down an invitation to a Con. (Though I don't cosplay... yet.) I hate not owning the latest and greatest gadgets and aspire to find my place in the world of game journalism. Favorite Games: The Mass Effect trilogy, Super Mario World, the BioShock series, the Ratchet and Clank series, anything featuring Nolan North. Favorite shows: FireFly (Browncoats, unite!), Bones, Castle, Spectacular Spider-Man (RIP), Transformers Prime. Anything featuring the voice talents of Steve Blum, Gina Torres, Ashley Johnson, or Yuri Lowenthal. Favorite Comics: Amazing Spider-Man (Thanks for the memories), most things featuring Batman, any one where Green Arrow makes an appearance.
