Bethesda Tweets Images For Yet Another Game Reveal

Bethesda Tweets Images For Yet Another Game Reveal

Vincent Parisi 06 May

It appears Bethesda is growing fond of the viral marketing strategy, as the popular studio has taken to Twitter to tease another new game reveal. Just a couple weeks ago, they introduced a brand new survival-horror IP titled The Evil Within, complete with a batch of screenshots and a short live-action trailer. This morning, they’re at it again, only this time the screenshots have a decidedly more metal feel to them. In addition to the feature header of this article, the below images were tweeted out:

Note that each image has the hashtag “#1960” in the corner, as an additional cryptic message for witty gamers to decipher. Following the tease, Bethesda additionally tweeted that the project is not anything that the studio is developing internally, which likely rules out the potential for this to be anything Elder Scrolls or Fallout related. This has led to current speculation that the game is being developed by Id Software, the studio behind titles such asĀ Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, and Rage, acquired by Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media in 2009. Further speculation points in the direction of this project being the oft-rumored Doom 4 that’s allegedly been in production for a while.

Personally, I’m hoping for another new IP. I doubt the world is swooning over a return to Wolfenstein, and with The Evil Within being a survival-horror title, I’m wondering if the studio wants to further branch out into other genres outside of their preferred action-RPG element. I’d certainly love to see Bethesda or one of the studios under the ZeniMax umbrella hop onto the increasingly-popular Cyberpunk trend and offer a unique interpretation of techno-organic augmentation.

What are your guesses about the latest tease? Would you like to see a new Doom title, or would you prefer a brand-new, original game? What genre would you want to see the team tackle next? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

About The Author

Vincent Parisi

I guess I'm the typical, modern day nerd. I was raised right on Batman: TAS and old-school TMNT. I've been a core gamer since I was 2 years old (I was beating Mario before I could finish sentences) and haven't thought twice about it since. My favorite game genre is RPG for sure. I love the advent of channels like Nerdist and Geek and Sundry, and will never turn down an invitation to a Con. (Though I don't cosplay... yet.) I hate not owning the latest and greatest gadgets and aspire to find my place in the world of game journalism. Favorite Games: The Mass Effect trilogy, Super Mario World, the BioShock series, the Ratchet and Clank series, anything featuring Nolan North. Favorite shows: FireFly (Browncoats, unite!), Bones, Castle, Spectacular Spider-Man (RIP), Transformers Prime. Anything featuring the voice talents of Steve Blum, Gina Torres, Ashley Johnson, or Yuri Lowenthal. Favorite Comics: Amazing Spider-Man (Thanks for the memories), most things featuring Batman, any one where Green Arrow makes an appearance.
