The mysterious “Titan,” the first game being created by Respawn Entertainment, a team comprised of former Call of Duty developers, is apparently going to be an Xbox exclusive, at least according to info gathered by Kotaku.
“Titan” is reportedly a sci-fi FPS that pits foot soldiers against massive, deadly robotic exoskeletons — the titular “Titans.” The Titans are faster and more agile than your average video game mecha, but the soldiers will be equipped with unique weaponry designed specifically to take them down. The game’s core mechanics are built around the unique, “David and Goliath” style of the combat between the soldiers and the Titans.
According to a source who Kotaku claims is “in a good position to know what the deal is with Respawn’s game,” Titan will be exclusive to Xbox platforms: the game is being developed for the next-gen Xbox, but a version for Xbox 360 is also being planned.
Respawn Entertainment was formed by former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vincent Zampella. West and Zampella left Infinity Ward and Activision on less than amicable terms, and they managed to take a good chunk of the original Modern Warfare team with them and formed Respawn. Respawn’s new game is going to be published by EA.
Scoring Titan as an Xbox exclusive would be a big boon for Microsoft: the next Xbox has been the subject of a lot of negative rumors regarding its alleged always-online requirements and a ban on used games, but Microsoft might be able to overcome gamers’ hatred of DRM if they were able to score some big exclusives for their new system. There’s nothing bigger right now than Call of Duty, and getting exclusive access to the next game from CoD’s creators might just give Microsoft the edge they need to get ahead of their competition this holiday season.
