Every MMO launches with its fair share of problems, and it looks like Trion Worlds’ MMO shooter Defiance is no different: the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game have been taken offline following the discovery of a game-breaking bug that was added to the game in a recent patch.
Xbox 360 users are reporting that after installing the patch, the game simply refuses to start up: players are simply greeted with a “Game Error” message and a suggestion telling them to redownload the title. Ironically, the patch was originally supposed to fix problems that arose during the game’s launch, such as frequent server and client crashes. PC players reported similar problems as well.
Two hours after the patch went live, Trion Worlds shut down both the Xbox 360 and PC servers for the game. Since the PS3 version of Defiance never received the patch, it remains unaffected and is still online.
Trion Worlds representatives say that they currently have “no ETA” for when Defiance will be back online.
