American Namco, Sega, and Capcom fans, your prayers have been answered! Project X Zone, the most blatant fanservice ever orchestrated, is finally arriving on US shores for the Nintendo 3DS. Namco revealed the game’s so-close-yet-so-far release date of June 25 on it’s official website, and representatives have since confirmed the date to IGN to ensure the claim’s validity.
Project X Zone is a strategy RPG combining the most beloved charaters across Sega, Capcom, and Namco franchises. If you can name it, there’s a reference to it somewhere in this game. Featured playable charactr’s include Street Fighter’s Ryu, Space Channel 5’s Ulala, and Devil May Cry’s Dante. Here’s the official (albeit ridiculous) synopsis for how all of these characters end up crossing paths: “The ancient treasure called the “Portalstone” has been stolen and a rift in time and space has allowed crossovers from various universes. The ambitions of various people, organizations and creatures have become intertwined, turning this incident into a great source of turmoil. The past, future, and even distant worlds from other dimensions have been drawn into what will be become a long journey for our heroes.”
And in case you need a refresher on what the game looks like, here’s a gameplay trailer:
The 3DS has a strong lineup of titles already, but I think Project X Zone is the perfect addition to the growing stable of must-have titles popping up on Nintendo’s latest handheld. June 25 can’t come soon enough. The unfortunate news is that European folks will have to wait at least a bit longer, as Namco has yet to specify a release window for the region. Stay tuned for any updates on that front.
Are you folks looking forward to the US release of Project X Zone? Did anyone plan on picking up a 3DS specifically to play this overload of fanservice?
