Shin Megami Tensei IV will be released in the US sometime this summer, Atlus announced today.
SMT4 is the first entry in the “main” Shin Megami Tensei series to come along since Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne came out for the PS2 almost ten years ago. Since then, the franchise has experienced an explosive growth in popularity thanks to semi spin-offs like Persona 3 and 4. Atlus is hopeful that gamers introduced to the series via the game’s friendlier spin-offs will make the jump into the more hardcore “main” series. “Since this is the first title from the original SMT series in a decade, we tapped the best developers from many of Atlus’ acclaimed projects including Nocturne, Strange Journey, Persona and Soul Hackers to create a premium experience that lives up to our fans’ and our own expectations,” said Naota Hiraoka, the president of Atlus’ parent corporation, Index Media.
The Japanese release of Shin Megami Tensei 4 is still scheduled for this May. The US release of the game will be preceeded by the release of Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (a remake of one of the earlier SMT games that was never released in the US previously,) on April 16th.
