Ubisoft has officially announced the next main chapter in the Assassin’s Creed series, entitled Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Black Flag will star a brand new assassin in a new historical setting.
AC4 is being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U. As with Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Revelations, and AC3, the PS3 version will feature exclusive content not available on the other platforms. Ubisoft isn’t ready to give any specific details about AC4 yet, but they’re promising to reveal more about the next chapter in the series sometime later this month.
I’m kind of surprised that Ubisoft has chosen to move onto AC4 so quickly after AC3; after all, there was a 3 year gap between AC2 and AC3, and I thought they were going to give us a few filler chapters starring Connor before they moved onto the next “real” AC game. Then again, AC3 seems to have gotten a pretty mixed reception from fans (especially in regards to its ending,) so perhaps Ubisoft wants to put that whole chapter of the series behind them and move onto something new.
The art we’ve seen so far seems to indicate that the new protagonist is a pirate of some kind, and that the game will focus on naval battles. That’s a good thing, considering that the naval battles were the best part of AC3.
