Nintendo aired a small Nintendo Direct broadcast this morning, and while there wasn’t much in the way of new games shown, Nintendo did have some good news for fans of old games: the previously Game Boy Color exclusive Zelda titles Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons will be coming to the 3DS’ Virtual Console soon.
The ports of the two games were originally announced via the Japanese broadcast of today’s Nintendo Direct, and afterwards Zelda director Eiji Anouma posted the following message onto the Zelda Miiverse community:
“The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages will be released for Virtual Console on Nintendo 3DS in Japan, but it’ll be a little while longer till the’re out in other territories. We”d like to ask for your patience until they’re ready for release. Thank you!”
Anouma didn’t give a specific launch date or price for either title.
Oracle of Ages and Seasons originally came out for the Game Boy Color around the same time that the Game Boy Advance launched, so I think they were sadly a little overlooked in their time in favor of flashier GBA titles. Both games are regarded by critics and hardcore Zelda fans alike as some of the best handheld Zelda games, so anyone with a 3DS should definitely pick them up when they’re uploaded onto the e-Shop.
