During an investors meeting today, Warner Bros. Chief Finance Officer John K. Martin revealed that the next game in the Arkham Asylum/City series may be coming sooner than expected.
While talking about the company’s expected profits for the year, Martin briefly mentioned that WB Games will ship a brand new Arkham game sometime during 2013, saying “And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013.” A full transcript of the meeting has been posted on Yahoo! Finance.
It’s unknown if Martin was referring to the rumored Silver Age themed prequel game that series developer Rocksteady Studios is supposedly working on or a separate title entirely, since at this point the only thing we know about this new Batman game is what Martin casually divulged.
The timing certainly makes sense: it’s been 2 years since the last Batman game, and I’m pretty sure Rocksteady has used that time for more than just the half-assed Wii U port of Arkham City. It’s about time the studio announced their next real project, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more about the next game in the Arkham series (Arkham World? Arkham County?) at E3 or possibly even before then. Personally, I’m pretty hyped at just the suggestion of a new Arkham game: Asylum and City are two of the best (if not the best) superhero games ever made, and I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
