New Dead or Alive 5 Patch Offers Gameplay Stability And… Precision Boob Jiggling?

New Dead or Alive 5 Patch Offers Gameplay Stability And… Precision Boob Jiggling?

Vincent Parisi 13 Feb

Apparently it’s a big day for patch news, first it was Aliens: Colonial Marines and now Dead or Alive 5. The latest patch for DOA 5, known as patch Ver.1.03, offers some gameplay balancing and online stability patches. Oh and, according to a post on the GameFAQs message board, there a little something extra too. Apparently the PS3 version of DOA5 now allows players to control just how much bounce their lady fighter’s breasts have during victory poses. Simply shaking the controller up and down is all that’s required. This new feature seems to be a hidden Easter egg (Valentine’s gift?), as it wasn’t listed on the official patch notes release Team Ninja put out.

Now, Team Ninja has always been pretty open about their game’s focus on “jiggle physics”, specifically in regard to the size of female character’s breasts. Team Ninja Director Yohei Shimbori spoke to Gamasutra last fall, revealing that, “we actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing it, saying, ‘We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that,’” which led to the decision to simply give the fans what they asked for. But this still seems a bit outlandish. Perhaps they deserve a pat on the back for just going through with it and not caring about potential backlash? I don’t know, I’m really still just trying to wrap my head around the whole thing.

For scientific, and discussion, purposes, I will post this absurd six-minute video highlighting the new feature. Remember, discussion purposes, and also science, so don’t hate me. Oh and unless you work at an all-female trampoline-testing facility, in which case this is probably just another Wednesday, I’m going to label the video as NSFW:

What does everything think about this? It is simply a step too far? Share your thoughts on what is sure to become a topic of discussion for the next couple weeks in the comments below.

For those genuinely interested in the actual issues patch Ver.1.03 is addressing, I’ll post them below:

Vincent Parisi

I guess I'm the typical, modern day nerd. I was raised right on Batman: TAS and old-school TMNT. I've been a core gamer since I was 2 years old (I was beating Mario before I could finish sentences) and haven't thought twice about it since. My favorite game genre is RPG for sure. I love the advent of channels like Nerdist and Geek and Sundry, and will never turn down an invitation to a Con. (Though I don't cosplay... yet.) I hate not owning the latest and greatest gadgets and aspire to find my place in the world of game journalism. Favorite Games: The Mass Effect trilogy, Super Mario World, the BioShock series, the Ratchet and Clank series, anything featuring Nolan North. Favorite shows: FireFly (Browncoats, unite!), Bones, Castle, Spectacular Spider-Man (RIP), Transformers Prime. Anything featuring the voice talents of Steve Blum, Gina Torres, Ashley Johnson, or Yuri Lowenthal. Favorite Comics: Amazing Spider-Man (Thanks for the memories), most things featuring Batman, any one where Green Arrow makes an appearance.
