Latest Metal Gear Rising Trailer Shows Off Raiden’s AR Vision

Konami has released a new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer, this time focusing on Raiden’s Augmented Reality visor.  Once activated, the visor highlights points of interest such as enemies, objective markers and destructible walls.

Revengeance is on track to release February 19 in the U.S. and in Europe just a few days later on February 22, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

In an age when it seems every action game must include some sort of “detective vision,” it almost feels like this isn’t a feature worth showing off.  I personally feel that AR help-screens take most of the fun out of playing games, but so long as they’re entirely optional I really can’t complain.

As far as the game itself is concerned, I’m cautiously optimistic about Revengeance.  I absolutely adore Platinum Games as a studio, Bayonetta is one of my favorite action games this generation, so I certainly have faith the team can make a solid game featuring a cyborg-ninja Raiden.  I’m just not of fan of the Metal Gear franchise in regards to its convoluted and, frankly, ridiculous narrative.  But I guess as a “popcorn game,” this will certainly be fun.  I’d love to be proven wrong though, and be treated to an interesting, sensible plot this time around.

Here’s the trailer, courtesy of EGM:

As far as Metal Gear projects go, I’m more closely following Ground Zeroes than anything else.  From everything we’ve seen so far, it seems to be Kojima’s next big budget blockbuster.  Plus, I’m a sucker for open world experiences, so opening up the Metal Gear world may be enough incentive to reinvigorate my interest in the series.

How excited are you guys for Raiden’s solo outing?  What are you looking forward to more, this, or the upcoming Ground Zeroes game?  And what of The Phantom Pain?  How does it fit into the bigger Metal Gear equation?  Join the discussion below in the comments.

  1. The demo was quite enjoyable. I liked it far more than any other Metal Gear game, as Revengeance doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously.

  2. I feel the same way; but I feel like a blasphemer proclaiming I enjoy this Metal Gear game solely because it doesn’t really feel like a Metal Gear game.
