Unfortunately, it seems the recent string of bans Riot Games has had to enact upon LoL players is not over yet. According to a recent post on the official board, three more players have been found in violation of “the Summoner’s Code.” This is especially relevant because all three players belong to the Team Solo Mebdi group, and as of now the entire team has been suspended from tournament play. While the official ruling (linked above) is quite long and thorough, I will post the key points below:
Player: Khaled Abusagr / StunnedandSlayed
Region: Europe
Date of Ruling: 01.23.13
Subject: Suspension; Violations of Summoner’s Code
The investigation has confirmed a number of facts in the player history of Khaled Abusagr (“Abusagr”), including a consistent pattern of in-game verbal abuse, racism, anti-Semitism and threatening behavior which require immediate action.
Competition Penalties:
Ineligible to compete in the LCS Season Three European Qualifier in Warsaw, January 25-27, 2013.
Ineligible to compete in the LCS indefinitely; this suspension shall commence immediately.
Ineligible to compete in any Riot-affiliated League of Legends tournaments indefinitely; this suspension shall commence immediately.
Player: Nicolaj Jensen / Veigodx
Region: Europe
Date of Ruling: 01.23.13
Subject: Suspension; Violations of Summoner’s Code
The investigation has confirmed a number of facts in the player history of Nicolaj Jensen (“Jensen”), including a consistent pattern of in-game verbal abuse, offensive behavior and negative attitude which require immediate action.
Player: Simon Näslund / Rayt3ch
Region: Europe
Date of Ruling: 01.23.13
Subject: Suspension; Violations of Summoner’s Code
The investigation has confirmed a number of facts in the player history of Simon Näslund (“Näslund”), including a consistent pattern of in-game verbal abuse, offensive behavior and negative attitude which require immediate action. Näslund’s current account, Rayt3ch, has built a harassment score so high that it warrants an automatic permanent ban. After reviewing the case, the Riot player behavior team has now issued the permaban.
Competition Penalties:
Ineligible to compete in the LCS Season Three European Qualifier in Warsaw, January 25-27, 2013.
Ineligible to compete in the LCS for a period of one year; this suspension shall commence immediately.
And that’s the short version! Basically, two players are suspended until further notice and one is permabanned. I don’t actually play League of Legends, but I know many people who do. While verbal abuse seems to run rampant (which is inexcusable, btw) throughout every online community, these LoL bans are coming in often and in packs. It doesn’t reflect very well on the “pro” gaming community. Do you guys notice a considerably more vicious online community when playing LoL? Or does this mainly take place in game lobbies or on message boards between matches? I’m genuinely curious, so please feel free to make your voice heard in the comments below.
