OWC Newer Technology Voyager S3 USB 3.0 Dock Review

OWC Newer Technology Voyager S3 USB 3.0 Dock Review

Nick Hernandez 03 Jan

Switching from a full desktop to a laptop or a tablet but don’t know the easiest way to move your file? Well Newer Technology’s Voyager S3 fixes that problem with their easy to use hard drive dock. The dock supports USB for the fastest possible external file transfer speeds which is perfect for transferring TB’s of data but in case you’re running a device that doesn’t have USB 3.0 it is backwards compatible to USB 2.0 but the downside is that transfer is a little slower. The Voyager S3 is unique because it is compatible with both 3.5in and 2.5in drives of up-to 4TB in size which luckily is currently the biggest available in size.

The Voyager S3 is well built so it’s safe to travel with and looks sleek enough to not be too distracting on your desk. The eject button is something I found extremely helpful so it keeps in my hard drive in tightly incase the S3 happens to fall over from a pet or something else hitting it. With other similar devices there are a lot of issues with not enough power or slow transfer speeds. However, this is not the case with this device because it easily plugs into the wall and has a long enough cord for when it’s too far away but the same does not go with the USB cable as I have the S3 on my desk but the cord only makes it about 1/4 of the way to my computer — this is something many companies overlook as they just assume all customers just have a laptop that can plug in within 1ft.

In conclusion, Newer Technology’s Voyager S3 is well built and will provide you fastest transfer speeds, safely hold in your hard drive, easy to travel with, it is completely silent. So I would recommend it to anyone requiring an external hard drive dock. Since no device is perfect, the only downside I could find was that the blue LED is a little bright at night time.
