Asus VivoBook X202: A Budget Windows 8 Laptop

Asus VivoBook X202: A Budget Windows 8 Laptop

Chad Buenaflor 27 Dec

Still looking for a laptop to buy this holiday season? You might want to consider looking at the Asus VivoBook X202 which is a mid-range laptop that has an ultrabook feel without the ultrabook price. Its main selling point is that it will be able to use all of the features of Windows 8, even its touch functionality thanks to its 11.6 inch touch capable display.

Asus VivoBook X202 Specifications

  • Display: 11.6 inches, 1366×758 pixels, Capacitive touch, LED
  • Processor: 1.8GHz Core i3-3217U
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Storage: 500GB HDD
  • Chipset: Intel HM76
  • Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows 8 Pro (64-bit)
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11n/g/b, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Ports: USB 2.0 (2), USB 3.0 (1), VGA, 3.5 mic/headphone combo

It’s amazing that Asus uses a brushed aluminum chassis for this budget model. It makes it have a premium look and has quite a striking resemblance to the high-end ZenBook line of the company. Its weight of 2.9 pounds won’t weigh you down while its 11.6 inch size ensures you of its portability.

One thing you will like about this model is that it uses a powerful Core i3 processor rated at 1.8GHz and when combined with 4 GB of RAM ensures that you will have a smooth experience even when multi-tasking between different open programs. You will even enjoy playing casual games on this device as it can handle them perfectly well. Just don’t expect to play all the latest 3D games on this device.

Battery life could be better and if you plan on using this outside of your home then you better bring your power adapter with you. Tests on this laptop showed that it can continuously play video for up to 4 hours before getting its battery drained.

Overall this is a solid laptop to buy if you are looking for a device to run Windows 8. You will get the touch functionality of the new OS which you won’t be able to experience with laptops that don’t have a touch screen.

The Asus VivoBook X202 is currently available in the market with an average price of $799.
