God of War Ascension doesn’t come out until next Spring, but the long wait shouldn’t stop you from pre-ordering the game now. Today Gamestop announced an exclusive bonus for all customers who pre-order the upcoming GoW prequel: special DLC that lets Kratos dawn the armor and weapon of 300’s King Leonidas.
It’s sort of weird that Sony is cross-promoting the new God of War with a five year old movie, but at least the crossover sort of makes sense, given that both franchises take place in ancient Greece and star very quick to anger protagonists. The pre-order DLC will apparently allow Kratos to wear Leonidas’s cape, helmet, and… uh, loincloth, and will also include access to an exclusive spear weapon, which will give Kratos new attacks and combos.
In addition to the in-game goodies, Gamestop will be giving out double-sided God of War posters while supplies last. I haven’t seen the poster myself, but I’m pretty sure it’s safe to assume that it features Kratos looking angry/solemnĀ and possibly tearing something apart.
I played God of War Ascension at E3 and I loved it, so much so that I’m probably going to buy the game just for the multiplayer. Gow: Ascension hits PS3’s on March 12, 2013.
