Super Meat Boy devs announce new game about cats

Team Meat, the developer behind the addictively sadistic platformer Super Meat Boy, announced a new game on their blog today. Entitled Mew-Genics, not much is known about the title other than it involves lots and lots of messed up cats.

Team Meat is keeping quiet about the game until they have more to show — they aren’t ready yet to announce a release date, a platform, or even what genre the game is — but they did say that the game will use randomly generated content of some kind. My guess is Mew-Genics is a Diablo-style dungeon crawler, though I’m not sure how you’d fit kittens into that genre. Development on the game apparently began during a weekend long “game jam,” but has since evolved into a full sized project.

The mobile, touch-based remake of the original Super Meat Boy that Team Meat announced last Spring is being put on hold while they work on Mew-Genics.

Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite indie games of all time, so I’m pretty excited to see what Team Meat does next. Development on Mew-Genics is apparently coming along quickly, so we should expect to hear more about the game soon.
