Sony kicked off the Tokyo Game Show this year by announcing that the 6 year old PS3 will once again be redesigned to be smaller and sleeker: the new PS3 model sort of looks like the original glossy design that the platform launched with, but is about 50% smaller than the original “Fat” models and 25% smaller than the more recent “Slim.”
The new models will be sold with either black or white casings. The new style comes at a price, however: the price of the base model PS3 will be $279.99 when it hits stores on September 25th, about $30 more expensive than the current Slim. The price increase does come with an increase in hard drive size however, so that may be where the extra cost is coming from.
A bundle with a 500GB hard drive packed in will also be available, but that won’t ship until October 10th.
The new redesign actually looks pretty nice, but I’ve grown attached to my fat original styled PS3. What can I say? I’m just a sucker for glossy plastic.
