Akaneiro is American McGee’s take on Little Red Riding Hood

Former iD designer American McGee has made a career out of reinterpreting classic stories like Alice in Wonderland and some of Grimm’s fairy tales into action games, and now he’s turning his attention towards Little Red Riding Hood.

Akaneiro reimagines old Red as a demon hunter in feudal Japan. The game is a free-to-play action RPG in the vein of Diablo that uses a cel-shaded art style reminiscent of Okami’s hand-painted presentation.

Following the release of last year’s Alice: Madness Returns, McGee and his team at Spicy Horse Games decided to shift focus away from traditional, boxed retail games and towards free to play titles. Details regarding Akaneiro’s gameplay and release date haven’t been released yet, but Spicy Horse is currently accepting registrations for a closed beta test of the game.
