Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was a surprise hit for Capcom during the days of the original DS, and now Capcom is hoping that Ace Attorney’s cult of extremely dedicated fans follow the bumbling lawyer over to the 3DS.
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu revealed the first details about the highly anticipated Ace Attorney 5 today. The game will once again star Phoenix Wright as the central character: he was previously replaced in AA4 by younger lawyer Apollo Justice, a move which angered longtime fans of the series. Phoenix will apparently by joined by a new female sidekick. The game will also use cel-shaded 3D graphics, rather than the traditional 2D sprite art that earlier games in the series used. Capcom says that Ace Attorney 5 will be about as long as the previous DS entries in the series.
Capcom has yet to announce a release date for the game yet, but it’s safe to assume that it’ll happen sometime after Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, the crossover game that pits Wright against Level 5′s puzzle solving Prof. Layton, hits Japan later this year. Here’s hoping Capcom USA regains some of their former sanity and decides to localize this game in English: the last Ace Attorney game for DS (a sequel to the Miles Edgeworth spin-off,) was never released in English.
