Earlier this year, Capcom blamed poor sales of Street Fighter X Tekken on an over saturated market for fighting games. Well, despite complaining about how crowded the fighting genre has become, Capcom apparently still thinks there’s room for one more: the fighting game pioneer announced today that they’ll be giving both the original Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel Superheroes an HD re-release this September, bundled together under the title “Marvel vs. Capcom Origins.”
The HD ports come with all the features you’ve come to expect from Capcom’s previous “remasters”: Marvel vs. Capcom Origins will feature multiple screen filters to make these old games look as good as they possibly can on HD displays, a set of in-game “challenges” to test your skills, and most importantly of all, online multiplayer. As with Street Fighter 4 and the recent HD version of Third Strike, the game will allow players to spectate live matches and share replays of their best fights on Capcom’s servers.
The port is being developed by fine folks at Iron Galaxy, the same team who handled the excellent re-release of Third Strike. Marvel vs. Capcom Origins will be released on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Store this September for $15.
