Scrolls Gameplay Trailer Polarizes Fans

Scrolls Gameplay Trailer Polarizes Fans

Dave Bast 25 Jun

Mojang released the gameplay trailer for their upcoming game Scrolls today and judging by the amount of downvotes it’s received on YouTube not every is happy with what they see. There are some who think the game itself looks boring while others aren’t happy with a turn based card game. There are even some who think Mojang is simply not capable of doing anything besides Minecraft or something similar. Of course due to this negativity some who are happy about the game have come to defend Scrolls and Mojang, essentially saying it not supposed to be Minecraft and that genre diversity is a good thing. Either way the release of Scrolls is oddly dividing among fans who don’t really know what to make of this Magic the Gathering meets Might and Magic online game from Mojang.

The minute long clip shows off some of the game’s turn based gameplay as well as a peek into the deck building system players will be using. It looks like the game board is made up of five lanes separating each player’s side of the board, kind of like Plants vs. Zombies but more like a duel. According to the game’s site, players will be able to unlock more scrolls, or cards for their deck, by facing off against the game’s AI.

The release of the trailer was done to coincide with the announcement that the game is quickly approaching open beta, allowing anyone who wants to play a chance to purchase the game at a discounted rate, similar to how it was handled with Minecraft. Purchasing the game gives you full access to the open beta, and eventually full release, a started deck, and a free subscription of a new scroll every week which I’m going to assume is a new card every week but I could be wrong.

Check out the full trailer for Scrolls below to see which side of the fence you’re on regarding Mojang’s upcoming release.

It honestly doesn’t look terribly interesting, but it would be a good time-waster.
