ROCCAT Kone[+] Mouse Review

ROCCAT Kone[+] Mouse Review

Nick Hernandez 21 Jun

The mouse has me rethinking my last 10 years of gaming and wondering why couldn’t I have this sooner!

Until this years CES, I honestly had no idea what the ROCCAT was and initially seen them as a run of the mill low end gaming gear maker to keep people on a budget happy. Luckily, I was given the opportunity to try out their Kone[+] mouse and Isku keyboard(review later) and I must say after using my Logitec G5 this is a welcomed change. To start off, and probably most importantly to all gamers out there, the mouse is equiped with a true 6000dpi laser with integrated TDCU which allows you to easily set the lift-off distance from your mouse pad as well as adjust the sensor to your mousepad for improved tracking and precision. Don’t worry though, if 6000dpi is too fast for you to handle they give you easy to use software to set any dpi you want between 100-6000 and easily switch between 5 different settings with a quick up or down button push on the mouse. Incase you think the sensitivity didn’t change they made sure to add in a loud(adjustable) voice to tell you what your current settings are.

Secondly, weights are important to make sure you get a nice comfortable feel with the mouse with the Kone[+] you can add up to 20g(4x5g) of weight to the bottom of the mouse. Also, unlike most mice that light up this one is equipped with 4 leds which you can change the colour to whatever you’d like all individually or you can have them all the same colour as well. But in case that is also boring to you, the good people at ROCCAT give you the ability to shut off the lighting, make it like a heart beat strobe, or just fade in and out everything is customizable with their fully featured software.

Further more, thanks to EasyShift[+], you can assign two functions or macros to the two side buttons of the mouse which makes life a breeze if you are playing old school games like Counter Strike:Source and have the buttons preset for your auto buying… the possibilities are really endless.

Mainly, the mouse just fits perfectly in my hand and I can set it at my perfect DPI for gaming (which for me is 3200dpi) and also allows to easily navigate between 3 monitors without ever lifting my mouse once to go from side to side.

Here are the full tech specs and features from ROCCAT.

Features:
– 6000dpi Pro-Aim Laser Sensor
– EasyShift[+] Button Duplicator
– 4-LED Multicolor Light System
– TDCU: Tracking & Distance Control Unit
– ROCCAT Driver with Macro Manager (you must get this from their website, no disc)
– Macro presets for games, multimedia & apps (may sound unneeded but it’s amazing once you have it)
– 576kB onboard memory for up to 5 profiles (what this means to you: take your mouse anywhere and it knows how you like it)
– 4 easy-to-clip-in weights (4x5g)
– 8 mouse buttons & solid 4-way wheel

Tech Specs:
– 6000dpi Laser Sensor R2
– 1000Hz polling rate
– 1ms response time
– 30g / 150-200ips
– 11750fps, 10.5MPix

Comparing this mouse to any other gaming mouse I’ve used (trust me I’ve used tons) and my long time love Logitec G5.

Rating: 10/10
