Being a Need For Speed fan I’d really like to give this game glowing reviews but as a journalist I simply can’t. The game was enjoyable to play for the very short demo but it was also very easy to beat which for a racing game I find boring.
The game is an open-world experience much like the original Most Wanted game that came out in 2008 but this time the controls do not have a 1 second lag and the graphics are significantly improved from the original but, no better than Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit / The Run. During the demo, you start out in a small race but then the cops come after you which are easily evaded so then a loading screen comes up that looks similar to an end of demo screen and then you are deeper in the city and more cops are after you. You are able to go anywhere and there are many jumps through out the small demo area so it helps with getting away but it seems once you are just far enough away to evade them then you hit the demo border so they catch up-to you again as you turn around.
It’s an enjoyable game but just feels exactly like the other Need For Speed games and I’m just getting bored. Especially now, since Forza has added an even better open world experience to their series though it’s missing the police and NOS which are NFS staples. I’m not really sure where they are going to do with it but I HOPE that it doesn’t have the deathly long loading screens, inherent in The Run, that make everyone want to break the game in two as they watch their lives waste away. We will find out October 30th, 2012 when the game launches and hopefully more information is released.
