It seems that Capcom is going to release a new trailer for Resident Evil 6 every few weeks until it’s released. At this rate, we’ll know the entire story by the time it comes out. I hate spoilers, and this trailer is filled with them, but hey, it’s my job to report on these things, so it can’t be helped. Anyway, full trailer and a few impressions after the jump:
BIG SPOILERS AHEAD:
This latest trailer seems to introduce a new antagonist to the series: it was previously thought that Leon’s longtime love interest Ada Wong would be the main villain of RE6, but this new trailer makes it look like she was framed by a new guy named Simmons, who is apparently the head of some sort of counter-terrorist agency.
The trailer also reveals that the game will have a level that involves Leon having to fight his way through a zombie infested airplane, which eventually crashes in the unnamed Chinese city that Chris and the new, third playable protagonist (who is apparently Wesker’s son,) are in.
If you’ve read this blog before, you know I’m a big Resident Evil fan, and I have really high expectations for RE6. Unlike a lot of old school RE fanboys, I don’t hate the new action-focused direction that RE has taken; I loved RE4 (and I consider it one of the best games of all time,) but RE5’s focus on co-op and simplified mechanics left me a little unsatisfied, though I still think the game was fun enough when taken on its own merits (provided you could find a competent co-op partner.) Everything I’ve seen so far leads me to believe that RE6 will be able to capture RE4’s magic, but then again, trailers can be misleading. I’m going to do my best to try and play Resident Evil 6 on the E3 showfloor as soon as I can, so expect my hands-on impressions with the game either later today or tomorrow.
