Sure, God of War 3 was promoted as the “end” to Kratos’ story, but let’s face it: as long as a franchise is profitable, there will always be more games to continue the series (see also: Halo). Today Sony’s Santa Monica Studio released the first teaser trailer for the next entry in the God of War series, Ascension.
The new game is apparently a prequel, which makes sense, considering the finality of the conflict in God of War 3. Kratos’ past has already been explored pretty thoroughly in the two GoW PSP games, but apparently there’s still more stories to tell about everybody’s favorite roid-raging Greek.
Narrative skepticism aside, I’m pretty happy to hear we’ll be getting another console God of War soon — GoW2 is easily one of my favorite action games of all time, and while I didn’t like 3 as much, I’m still eager for more. As long as the combat is as “crunchy” and satisfying as it always was, I won’t mind whatever adventure they manage to shoehorn Kratos into this time.
God of War Ascension is scheduled to hit the Playstation 3 sometime next year.
