After a week of leaks and rumors, Ubisoft formally unveiled Assassin’s Creed 3 today. Proving earlier rumors true, the game is set during the American Revolutionary War and features a brand new, tomahawk wielding protagonist. Game Informer is promising to have all the details regarding the latest title in Ubisoft’s popular murder simulator in their latest issue, which should arrive in subscriber’s mailboxes within the week. The GI cover also shows a character that I’m assuming is George Washington, so it’s safe to assume that the Founding Fathers will play a major role in AC3’s story.
I’m a huge fan of Assassin’s Creed and unlike (seemingly)most people, I actually enjoy the series’ sci-fi slant, so it’ll be interesting to see how the new setting and character tie into Desmond’s modern day battle against the Templars. The new protagonist looks suitably bad-ass, and if the rumors about him being part Native American are true, it might lend the game an interesting perspective. The Revolutionary War is one of the most colorful times in our history and it has strangely only appeared in a few games before (mostly old strategy games,) so AC3’s new setting should prove interesting to explore (and kill lots of people in.)
Also, semi-related tangent: The Assassin’s Creed facebook page has been inundated with posts from fans proclaiming how excited they are regarding the announcement of an AC game set during The Civil War (a.k.a. the war which is almost a hundred years after the one that’s actually featured in AC3,), which serves as a reminder that we Americans are terrible at knowing our own history.
