Earlier this week, Kotaku reported on the annual Madden Super Bowl prediction saying that the NY Giants will win the Super Bowl 27-24. A few days after Madden released its simulation’s prediction, NFL 2K5 released theirs; the New England Patriots will win 45-31. So while the real-life underdog Giants have the blessing of industry front-runner Madden, the real-life front-runner Patriots have the blessing of industry underdog NFL 2K5. So who is going to win this match-up?
Madden and the Giants.
To those of you who think i’m biased, you’re right. Living in New York and eating a big blue bagel with red cream cheese from my local deli, I would love nothing more than to see the Giants repeat their epic 2008 victory over the New England Patriots. We were the underdogs last time as well, if you remember. I mean come on, Madden has the Giants winning by a field goal, mirroring their last match-up. 2K5 has the Pats winning by two touchdowns, Pffft.
All joking aside, considering the accuracy of EA’s simulation in the past, Giants fans can take solace in the fact that Madden has got their back yet again. While Madden’s simulation ran with full 15 minute quarters, NFL 2K5’s only had quarters that lasted 8. The Giants have been coming back from deficits all season, those 7 missing minutes can make all the difference in football.
However, in Football, anything can happen.
Regardless of who you are rooting for, where you live or which gaming franchise is your favorite, this Super Bowl is going to be an interesting one. Either way though, come this evening, someone is going to be wrong…. *cough 2K5 cough*.
