The Klei developed beat’em up Shank is getting its deserved sequel early this week to bring a bit more blood into this lovey-dovey month. Shank 2 brings players back in control of the titular character Shank as he travels the gritty comic-book-style world to, well, beat dudes to a bloody pulp, this February 8.
Not a whole lot has changed in this downloadable outing as Shank is still a hired gun that will kill just about anyone. The only difference this time is the addition of guns, better AI, polished controls and a brand new Survival Mode. The beautiful and unique art style remains intact, and still feels like a comic book version of Pulp Fiction.
Survival Mode forces Shank to–you guessed it–survive endless hordes of thugs, but you don’t have to do it alone as it also supports local and online play. As I mentioned Shank 2 will indeed feature plenty of new guns, but I should also note that all the handguns, chainsaws, grenades from the original will make a destructive return as well.
I was trying to think up something clever about how blood relates to hearts and hearts are common Valentine’s Day but really, if you want to blast and pound your way through goons, in a game that feels straight out of the arcade, then that by all means just play this game and forget about your loved ones. Here’s a video of some uncut gameplay footage from the “docks” level:
Shank 2 will be downloadable on February 8 for $9.99(PSN) or 800MSP(XBLA), no word yet on the PC release date.
