A million people have used the iOS Jailbreak that was designed to free Apple’s chip running the iOS 5. The massive numbers of jailbreaks has something to do with the untethered (not connected to a PC) jailbreak device that works on iPad 2 an iPad 4. Once an iPad has been “broken out” users can go to sites like Cydia where they get to download apps that they would otherwise have to purchase from an apple store. This is a tool designed by hackers which has had Apple scrambling to do damage control or get a handle of the situation. They tried to make it harder for hackers to pull off jailbreaks by developing the iPad 2, their first A5 device. It was tough but in less than a year, a new jailbreak called Absinthe and Green Pois0n jailbreak was put out by the Chronic Dev Team. According to the developers, it is essentially based on a combination of complex exploits. They have simplified the complexity of the jailbreak by posting tutorials on the iClarified website. The software itself is downloadable from greenpois0n.com.
Phones and tablets that have been jailbroken have access to tools and apps that users would probably not be allowed to access. The tools themselves as well as applications are not as elaborate or in some cases, particularly useful. Take the Fake Carrier application for instance. This application does nothing more than allow you to change carrier names in the iPhone status bar. There are many other novelty items that do nothing more but change the look of your screen, but then there are more useful applications that give you the kind of functionality you wouldn’t be able to get for your phone without a jailbreak, like Veency, Display Recorder or Winterboard. Veency allows you to use your iOS device from your computer, without needing to touch the device.
With Display Recorder you can record your iPhone or iPad screencast whilst with the Winterboard you can do so much customization with themes and icons. Having a jailbroken iPhone allows you to explore more about what you can do with your phone besides “tricking it up” with themes and icons. There is so much that can be done; if you are curious enough and want to get past the limits of what Apple has set for you, then scruples aside, jail breaking will expand your world.
