Dark Souls is console exclusive, but PC gamers want a slice of the grim and gritty RPG notorious for its extreme and unforgiving difficulty. This has hit the news sometimes including on Rock Paper Shotgun, and a petition for the game to be on PC hit 35,000 signatures as of writing this article.
A statement of the petition says “A port of this game has a high chance of being extremely successful for From Software and Namco Bandai. Given the sales of games such as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and The Witcher, there is a large market for games like this. PC gamers love unforgiving, hardcore games.”, and goes on to list some other advantages.
These upsides include that the sheer power of modern PCs along with them being the ultimate online platform will make Dark Souls a perfect candidate as a PC game. Blighttown, a region with a significant degree of lag because the consoles can’t handle it, might not be a problem on PC either.
Steam is then mentioned as a means of selling the game at a reasonable price, and to be able to provide support for online games like it has done with virtually every game in its library.
Not only will this allow more gamers to enjoy Dark Souls (and possible Demon’s Souls if that gets ported), the modding community has a great love for any form of open world gaming. The mod content for games like Oblivion and Baldur’s Gate has reached levels that the developers would never have dreamed of, and a game like Dark Souls has a huge amount of modding potential. Not just new content, but probably rebalancing the difficulty of the game to make it more accessible, and fixing various bugs and errors that are in the game itself.

We really need the ability to mod console games without having to directly edit an ISO file. Right now, that is the greatest advantage the PC platform has and always will.
