EA bans user who gets sworn at. Punishing the victim much?

EA bans user who gets sworn at. Punishing the victim much?

Rian Quenlin 05 Dec

Moderators and admins, whether for forums or online game, often have a reputation for being immature tyrants with thought processes similar to the common roach, and stories like this reinforce that stereotype.

Even though Battlefield is an M-rated game with mountains of violence and profanity, EA’s had the clever idea to employ a complete idiot who decides to tell people to cut down on profanity, and this is not the only stupid thing to happen. A user was banned from EA’s forums and Battlefield for being sworn at.

Yes, you read that right, a user was banned from EA’s forums for being sworn at, and denied the right to play Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2 which is on Steam and assumed out of EA’s jurisdiction. MaximumTacos was called a “noob bitch cunt” by someone, who likely didn’t pass English class, and was smacked down by EA’s moderation staff.

I don’t mind rules against racial, nationalist, and homophobic slurs and attacks, but EA has a problem with profanity in general. An entire platoon was unjustly banned a while ago because the leader said “We kill bitches for fun”, and the entire group got a 72 hour ban, not just the leader.

Let’s face it, EA’s forum is run by noobs who have no right to be on the internet. I’m really hankering for a Gamer’s Bill of Rights that greatly limits how far a punishment can go. Under zero circumstances should someone be denied singleplayer access, even if it’s just for three days. Going to ban from multiplayer? Go ahead,if it’s  your server, but anything beyond that I’m sure breaks a law somewhere. EA even has a policy of not restricting multiplayer apparently but it seems that is, once again, a huge lie from EA.
