Sequel to XIII, XIII: Lost Identity, an interactive adventure has screenshots released

Sequel to XIII, XIII: Lost Identity, an interactive adventure has screenshots released

Rian Quenlin 26 Oct

XIII, based on the Belgian comic series of the same name was a first-person shooter on the PS2 GC, XBox, and PC a good handful of years back about an amnesiac hunted by the police who claimed his name was Steve Rowland, and that he was the assassin of the President of the United States William Sheridan, with the plot focusing on him finding out the truth behind the President’s assassination. While that was a FPS game, Lost Identity is simply an interactive adventure focused on XIII finding out his past after clearing a good chunk of that mess up.

Details are scarce, but from the screenshots posted on the official Facebook page, it can be guessed that Lost Identity will be an adventure game similar to games like Broken Sword or Beneath a Steel Sky where you must solve puzzles and talk to the cast in order to progress through the story. A rather unexpected genre shift from the original game, but XIII is first and foremost a comic series first and a game second, and will likely have a brilliant storyline that further expands on the identity of XIII to make up for the lack of firepower.

The game is likely an adaption of comic volumes 6-8 taking place right after where the first game left off. XIII is tasked with finding out everything he can about his forgotten past and his true identity, including what gave him amnesia in the first place.

If you have not read the original comic, I highly recommend that you do. If you can’t, then I highly recommend picking the game up, it’s a very good adaption and a very solid shooter with a very unique graphical style and a brilliant storyline. Those who jump straight into this without having read the comic or played the original game will find themselves completely lost about the storyline.

I can’t find a concrete release date but it’s looking to be released next month on iPhone, iPad, and PC. I’m not certain if this includes an English release or if it will get an English release at all but it’s hopeful.

Always nice to see someone who’s a fan of the original game writing. While I know a decent number of gamers are fans, almost every article I find talks about the original as flawed or lackluster. Shame it was one of my favorite games on the original XBOX. In fact, I recently started playing it again, about a week before I found out it was getting a sort-of-sequel. Awesome.

It’s far from as polished as most FPS games but most adaptions of works are aimed at fans of the source material. Of course I played the game first and hunted down the comic with my limited knowledge of the language and had to translate it by hand, but it was worth it, very good read.
