Konami Digital Entertainment has officially announced that the HD collection of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Libery, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid: Peach Walker, Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake will be shipped next month on November 8th for the XBox and PS3.
If you have not played any part of the MGS series before, to say you have missed out is an understatement. Hideo Kojima’s direction of the series shows both incredible tactical gameplay, and an epic storyline of politics, war, conspiracy, and science-fiction focused on elite groups of countless factions all wanting money and power. The excellent dialog, gameplay, music, storylines, and replayability of the games has made it into one of the most well-known franchises of the modern gaming era.
If you are wondering if the MGS2 and MGS3 releases will be the special editions of the game, then the answer is “Yes”, as this was announced all the way back at E3 2011 in a pre-event press conference. In case you missed those or forgot about them I’ll sum them up.
In addition to the original game, MGS2: Substance added a large amount of content to the original game in the form of 300 VR missions, and 200 alternative missions set in the Tanker or Big Shell. These missions included simplistic “Reach the goal without being seen”, “Shoot the targets”, “Freeze the bombs”, and more unique ones like photographing certain things, or playing as Raiden completely naked in order to sneak past enemies without being seen.
Also added are “Snake Tales” which feature Snake in five original stories set in the MGS2 universe that remix the levels and challenges of the original game.
MGS3 Subsistence is a similar idea to Substance, and also included slight remakes of the original two Metal Gear games and an online multiplayer mode. It also included a fully controllable camera which fixed a common complaint about the original game in which the camera’s direction was often fixed to a northern bias. The content also added new camos and connectivity to Metal Gear Acid 2 and some additional special features.
Sadly this doesn’t include the original MGS or its remake Twin Snakes.
