Unity Engine 3.5 Brings Console Graphics to Mobile Space

Unity Engine 3.5 Brings Console Graphics to Mobile Space

Chris Hernandez 02 Oct

Unity Technologies is a popular developer of mobile game engines and they are attempting to push the bar of quality as high as they can in the mobile space. The latest version of the Unity Engine, 3.5, is said to run 60% better than the currently available version. CEO David Helgason says  “Unity 3.5 demonstrates our intense commitment to bringing seriously advanced technology to the masses and we’re only getting started.”

Apart from just running more efficiently the engine will also introduce some exciting features such as: multithreaded and HDR rendering, a new GPU profiler, directional light maps,an entirely new AI system and an entirely new particle effects system. Most of these will only work on more powerful mobile devices, such as the iPhone and the latest Android devices. The engine also uses certain tricks to render high quality images on less powerful devices by having an on-rails experience similar to Infinity Blade (iOS).

Here are a couple of videos showing off the power of the unity engine.

Bladeslinger and Shadowgun are available now for either iOS or Android, check out the App Store or the marketplace to see how they run for yourself. Rochard is available on the PSN.
