New Mortal Kombat Movie Under Development – New Line Cinema Aiming For 2013 Show Date

New Mortal Kombat Movie Under Development – New Line Cinema Aiming For 2013 Show Date

Andy Codina 30 Sep

Are Hollywood writers running out of ideas for movies? After Lionsgate announced it will be doing a big screen rendition of Dead Island, now we have another big name film production company stepping into the plate, looking to create another movie based on the popular gory fighting franchise Mortal Kombat. Well, we all know this is not the first time Mortal Kombat graced the big screen or our TVs, but with Warner Brothers’ New Line Cinema division working on the production, expect this latest film journey of this household fighting game title to be cracking.

New Line Cinemas has taken the step to hire a director, and it seems like they are set to do something big with this movie, tapping Kevin Tancharoen to direct the film. Tanchaoren directed the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, as his writing partner Oren Uziel joins him for the movie production. The duo worked on the Youtube viral video Mortal Kombat: Rebith that actually sparked the development of Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

New Line Cinema, Tancharoen and Uziel will be facing a few hurdles down the line as the initial plan for the whole movie is to finally reboot the storyline of Mortal Kombat. For hardcore Mortal Kombat fans, this can be a very big deal after how the recent TV series and Movies have messed up the video game title. New Line Cinema’s production of the new Mortal Kombat movie will mark the second time the title has ever stepped into the big screen after the coherent success of the original Mortal Kombat movie back in 1995 which garnered over $122 million from a mere $25 million budget.

Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema has also iterated that they are aiming for the movie to arrive during the same time the new installment of the Mortal Kombat game launches. It is possible that the movie will hit theaters the same time the game debuts or we might be seeing a game release with a movie DVD or Blu-Ray bundle.

obviously, Hollywood lack of ideas many years ago. They just want to make money and if doing remakes and reboots of movies could give them money, they’re going to give it a try.

So, is Kevin Tancharoen going to be the director? If that’s so, even if the movie is a reboot could be interesting if he’d make it.

Yep, he will be, plus he is going to be paired up with his long time partner Oren Uziel. They were the guys behind Mortal Kombat:Rebith… It should be quite interesting.
