Dead Island was yet another Zombie-Horror Action Adventure Game released earlier this month to the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. It garnered quite a few positive reviews, generally viewed as a “so-so” release and with issues on sexism and corrupted PC files stacking up, somehow it was able to sell over 2 million copies worldwide to date, as it spawned a novel offshoot. Now, this game’s astounding luck is still hanging on as Dead Island is set to tell another story – this time, it will be on the big screen.
No, this will not be the typical movie rendition of a video game that seems to be so destined for a plateau. Heads up as Lionsgate has announced earlier today that it had acquired rights from game publisher Deep Silver and now is setting up to create a movie based on the Dead Island video game. Talk about crossing over! If there would be a film production company you dream about calling your office, asking rights for your video game – it would probably be Lionsgate.
Although there has not been any details released about the movies development, Lionsgate did note that it will be focusing on “human emotion, family ties, and nonlinear storytelling.” Other note worthy details would be the participation of top Hollywood producers such as Sean Daniel (The Mummy) and Stefan Sonnenfeld (Pirates of the Caribbean, X-men: The Last Stand) though today’s announcement did not mention a director or cast for the film. Well, this is certainly enough basis for fans to start cramming for more information and details on what is to come with the Dead Island Movie. There has not been much action going on with movie renditions of video games and this seems to have something working out for it.
Hang on to your popcorns movie bums, as Dead Island is coming to a theater near you.
