If you are one of those people whose childhood was marred with multiple hours of Risk sessions with your family or friends, this bit of news might come as a pleasant joy. Risk, arguably the most popular modern board game is coming back in Metal Gear Solid version. No, you do not need to get your eyeglasses – you read it right the first time, and no, this is not a joke. Konami, the game publishing giant who obtains the license of the Metal Gear series title is taking to its franchise to board games.
Konami Digital Entertainment Inc, announced earlier today that it will be releasing a “mercenary style” board game that merge that will fuse together the blockbuster video game franchise Metal Gear Solid and the popular strategy board game RISK. Konami is bringing Metal Gear to the boards with USAopoly – the company that brought Risk: Halo Wars, Super Mario Chess and Monopoly Futurama.
Mergers like this comes as a healthy diversity for the gaming world, as the industry is dominated with video games; it is nice to see how companies like USAopoly is thinking out of the box and integrating their own style into the classic and traditional board games with a little help from the modern video game titles.
Risk: Metal Gear Solid takes its notes from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, this edition of RISK swaps world armies for private military corporations with game pieces styled after five PMC groups, Boss Cards featuring in-game characters, Drebin Cards, and 42 Territory Cards, plus Metal Gear-themed Reward Cards.
Metal Gear Solid Risk board game will retail at $49.95. The new table-top title is set to hit pre-order sale in October 3, and will be available exclusively through USAopoly’s official website.
