There isn’t much Terraria news, but since I recently had the game gifted to me by a generous friend, I decided to do a piece on all the teasers and changes that are planned for the next update, and I’ll keep it detailed for those of us who are not players of the game.
First on the agenda: Corruption. Corruption is a biome in Terraria that has a priority over grass in its spread, and spawns eldritch abominations in large amounts. In a natural corruption biome, the area is full of deep crevices, and also has shadow orbs that, when smashed, cause meteors to fall and every third one broken summons the Eater of Worlds boss. In the current version, corruption can only be planted on dirt, and it only spreads over grass. A screenshot released by Redigit shows that the corruption has acquired some new capabilities.
That’s right, it can now spread across the desert. In his post, he said that it spread through the jungle, and swallowed up one of the oceans at the edge of the map. He mentioned a new item called Hallowed Seeds which create an anti-corruption biome, which was used to stop the spread. The corruption could previously be halted in its tracks with some stone or non-dirt since it only affected dirt in the first place.
Two new ores are going added to the game, cobalt, a blue metal, and mithril, a green metal. These can be used to create drills, which I assume are upgraded pickaxes that possibly have an area of effect allowing for very fast mining, that’s just my own speculation however. They can also be forged into armor and presumably weapons. Mithril is traditionally a strong but extremely light metal in fiction. It might mean a boost in your movement speeds but like I said, that’s a wild guess. Cobalt, I honestly have no clue what that can do.
A set of red armor and tools have been added to the game, but what it’s made of is completely unknown. It could be a new material, or crafted entirely from rubies. Shown in more detail is Holy Water, a thrown weapon that doles out extremely high amounts of damage and appears to purify ebonstone on contact. Many other tools and items are shown but their exact effects are anyone’s guess.
Onto confirmed features coming up now. Pure PvP servers with objectives will be possible, as PvP in Terraria is optional on all servers, and a world will be generated for every match. The possibilities are endless.
Slopes and inclines are also looking to be added to the game in order to make the world appear smoother and more realistic instead of being made up purely of 2ft squares. More world types are also going to be added to add more progression to the game beyond the usual Kill Cthulhu’s eye, then Eater of Worlds, vanquish Skeletron and conquer the dungeon and Hell itself which honestly isn’t an awful lot. You can already craft alien technology in the game and there is a lot of Hellish equipment.
Terrain-changing events are also confirmed, including volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. The only event like this in the game is a meteor crash which only has an effect on a single screen. Seasons are also being looked at, which is what I personally am looking forward to since I love winter and ice-based maps. Your 12-hour day and 12-hour night comes to an end with weather!
The magic system will also get an “overhaul” but I really didn’t think that it needed fixing. Not sure on the exact details of this really since it was already given a large change from the original version.
On an aesthetic level, the backgrounds will have more than just clouds and the sky, natural foliage will have shrubbery and bushes, and caves will be getting stalagmites and stalactites. They might just be decoration, or they might function like jungle and corruption thorns that do a small amount of damage on contact.
Those are the major ones. The ETA of the update is completely unknown, but it might be sometime this month or next month, they seem to have a good chunk of the hard stuff out of the way already.

I’m going to get a better go-to pic for Terraria, that one is awful.
